Bar Stool Height Guide
Choosing the right stool height is the most important step in finding the perfect bar stool. Use this guide to match your stool to your bench or table height.
How to Measure
Measure the height of your bench or table from the floor to the underside of the surface (not the top). You want approximately 25–30cm of clearance between the seat of the stool and the underside of the bench.
Height Reference Guide
| Bench / Table Height | Recommended Seat Height | Stool Type |
|---|---|---|
| 85–95cm (standard kitchen bench) | 60–68cm | Counter Stool |
| 95–110cm (island bench / bar) | 69–76cm | Bar Stool |
| Variable / unsure | Adjustable | Gas Lift Stool |
Tips
- Always measure your bench before buying — bench heights vary between homes and builders
- If you're between heights, go with an adjustable gas lift stool
- Allow at least 15cm between stools for comfortable seating
- Most standard Australian kitchen benches are 90cm high, making a 65cm stool the most popular choice
